“Knock and the Door Will Be Opened” (7:7)
In the first verses of chapter 7, Jesus returns to the subject of pride, denouncing the attitude of those who condemn others without recognising their own sin. This attitude reveals an arrogant heart which prevents them from turning to God. To find a solution to the problem of sin, you must seek it! Humility, the opposite of pride, drives us to ask, to knock at the door. “To the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (7:8), but he who thinks he has no need of help excludes himself.
Believe and Put into Practice (7:12-29)
At the end of this long discourse, Jesus focuses on the absolute necessity of putting his teachings into practice. It is not sufficient to believe in the Torah or the Injil; we must live them! The spiritual “fruit” that we produce shows who we really are (7:16), much more than our words. That’s why the door and the path leading to life are narrow (7:13-14).
