Reflections about the Injil

True and False Prophets (The Injil, Chapter 7)

The Injil (Text of Matthew 7.15)

At the beginning of chapter 7, the Messiah insisted on the absolute necessity of putting into practice the teachings of the Torah and the Injil. What follows shows that prophets are not exempt from this rule, and that their lives must be exemplary. We shouldn’t trust those who think they are above the Law already revealed before them! They may seem impressive, but we must not be fooled (7:22-23). If anyone claims to be a prophet, we should ask if he respects the law of the Kingdom given here? Is his morality above reproach? Does he serve others, or does he want others to serve him (7:12) ? Is he gentle, demonstrating goodness (5:5-7) ? Does he bring peace, or seek to dominate by force (5:9) ?

The Messiah impresses the crowds with his words (7:28-29) but, equally, shows himself to be above reproach in every way (see chapter 4). The chapters following will reveal in more detail the greatness of his works among the people.
